Noah's Ark: Meerkats Next Class Begins March 19, 2012

Join us for a full year of fun with our Noah's Ark series of creations.  Every month we'll feature a new animal or character set. The Ark itself will be featured during the summer or 2011.  All animals are available in 2 sizes, so you can make either the larger or smaller version.  Cheryl Moss will be your instructor.

Cheryl really has a soft spot for Meerkats. Not only do they epitomize the very essence of the African continent in so many ways, but she has the privilege of being the proud owner of a pair since 2004. They are stunning little creatures! Curious, full of life and always a wild animal at heart, the Meerkat is a true gem of Africa.

The meerkat stands at 3.2" tall. The supply list is based on the size as designed. The pattern may be enlarged but this will mean that the supplies will also have to increase accordingly.
Supply List for the pair:
  • 1 piece 9" x 9" square miniature Velvet is just enough for 2 meerkats. If you are unsure and may want to re-do parts, or have a bigger seam allowance, rather have a second one handy just in case. (I used Sassy Smokey Long Pile Golden Brown)
  • 1 piece 3" X 4" square dark brown Ultrasuede
  • 1 piece 2" X 1" square black Ultrasuede
  • 2 pairs 10mm joint discs for head
  • 2 T-shaped cotter pins
  • 2 pairs of 2mm onyx or bead eyes
  • A dark brown fabric marker (I use Copic Markers)
  • Soft pastels for shading
  • Polyfil fibre for stuffing
  • A pipe cleaner for the tail
  • Decoupage glaze (or any other nose shine product) and a fine paintbrush (optional)
  • Artists fixative (optional)

The tools required for this course are:

  • Small sharp scissors
  • A good pair of hemostats
  • Small long nose pliers
  • Gel pen or pencil for tracing the pattern
  • A fabric marker for the spots on the muzzle (I use Copic markers)
  • Fray check (optional)
  • Tacky glue
  • A basic sewing kit including needles of different lengths and threads
