'Petunia Panda Bear'

                           

In this  class, we'll be making a gorgeous, 15 inch  black and white panda, using traditional bear making techniques.  This class is suitable for all levels of bear makers, from the beginner to the advanced.  If you've ever wondered how to create a beautiful panda face, then this is the class for you!       

Use the Supply List Below below to gather your supplies prior to the course.

     

Petunia Panda Tool & Supply List

 Gather up the tools that you’ll need:

  • A box end wrench or ratchet.
  • A pair of needle nose pliers.
  • >An awl.
  • A stuffing stick.
  • A bear grooming brush or dog brush.
  • Sewing needles in various lengths including one at least 4 inches long.
  • Pins.
  • Small sharp scissors.
  • Seam ripper.
  • Thimble.
  • A pair of tweezers.
  • Tacky glue and Super glue.  Magnatac  (Known as Fabrictac in Canada) is recommended as a tacky glue.
  • Glue stick.
  • Pens. Include one white, silver or gold gel pen.
  • Markers.
  • Black pencil crayon.
  • A sheet of BRISTOL or poster board.

A sewing machine is optional. You can sew the entire bear by hand using a back stitch. This will need to be done in the week prior to the Live online class.

Check your supply list:

  • 1/4 yd white or off white mohair.
  • 1/4 yd black or a contrasting color of mohair.
  • 1 pair 10 or 12 mm glass eyes.
  • 1 foot of thin leather cord for the eyelids. (Black or dark gray is recommended.)
  • An 8 inch square of  felt for the paw pads.
  • A 1 inch square of felt that matches the color of your pearl cotton for the nose.
  • 72 inches of pearl cotton for embroidering your bear's nose.
  • 3 sets of 40 mm (1 1/2 inch) set screw and fiber board joints. Other joints, such as safety joints or cotter pins  can also be used  but set screws are recommended.
  • 2 sets of 55 mm (2 inch)  set screw and fiber board joints.
  • About 2 pounds of polyester or acrylic stuffing.
  • 1-2 cups of plastic pellets. (optional)
  • 1 spool each of heavy duty white and black thread.
  • Polyester sewing thread in a shade to match the backing of your mohair.
  • Decorative accessories such as ribbons and flowers.
  • Optional leather cord for eyelids and false eyelashes. (You can buy these at the drug store.)
  • Optional lace for paw pad overlay.
Course Duration: 30 days plus a 15 day grace period.
