Reborn Puppy  Next Class Begins Jan 5, 2012

In this workshop you will learn how to take a 17” (newborn/preemie size) reborn baby sculpt and turn it into a puppy dog baby. This will be achieved by using Polymer clay to enhance and modify the pre existing form into a sweet puppy baby. With a bit of clay and an imagination you will have the puppy of your dreams. This class will use the Secrist Missy Reborn form to create a specific breed of puppy, but you are free to use the techniques learned in this workshop and create whatever animal you choose. This class will mainly focus on the techniques of modifying reborn born babies with clay and acrylic paint, but step by step instructions of completing the class model will be provided for those that choose to create the class puppy. Once your puppy is complete you will be able to dress it in a wide variety of newborn and preemie

clothes designed for real babies.Airbrush skills are a bonus, but not required as these puppies can easily be hand painted as well. Click HERE for info on our EbearZ Airbrush workshop.

The bulldog puppy pictured is not the actual puppy you will make, it is just an example of the technique. Further photos will be posted here at a later date.

Your Instructor for this workshop is award winning artist Krista Griffiths.

Krista has developed this technique of creating reborn puppies, and we are so happy that she will be sharing her techniques with us here at the EbearZ U.

Supply List

  • Reborn baby kit of your choice, Class will use Secrist 17 " Missy (1/4 limbs) with eyes
  • Pre-made body, or supplies to make a body, a 17"  limb body pattern will be provided if you don't want to purchase the one that comes extra with the baby kit. If you use the pattern you will also need to purchase fabric, doll joints and cable ties to attach the limbs and head. As far as cost the two work out the same the only difference with making your own is that you can create it in a color to match your puppy. You can purchase  limbs but the pattern in class is for  limbs so you will need to go with a pre made body for limbs.
  • Stuffing and some poly pellets if you want your puppy to have a bit of weight, but the clay does add some weight in itself.
  • Polymer clay of your choice. The class will use Prosculpt clay (or Living Doll) in the Baby color, approximately half a block will be used. Any brand of clay you are comfortable with will work, but purchase it in a baby color for ease of painting more uniform colors, if you are using the smaller blocks of Sculpey or Fimo, 4 blocks should be suffice.
  • Liquid Polymer, the brand is called Translucent Liquid Sculpey
  • A round brush that you can use for the Liquid Sculpey, this brush will be unsuitable for anything else after it is used with the LS.
  • Acrylic paint either for airbrush or hand painting in colors White, Black, Red, Raw Sienna, Raw Umber (for the hand painting details I also use the same airbrush paints)
  • Polymer clay varnish, any air dry gloss for the claws of your puppy will work
  • Sculpting tools, class will use mainly sculpting tools from Macpherson Crafts in #2 cup, #0 Taper Point, and #0 Flat chisel, (other things you could use will be discussed further in class)
  • Airbrush or various size paintbrushes for painting with acrylic paints
  • Fine detail brush
  • Masking tape
  • Xacto knife
  • Aluminium foil
  • Baking pan for clay use only (do not use for food once clay is baked in it) -oven cooking bags if you are concerned about baking clay in your household oven -matte spray finish to protect your work, class uses Matte Top Coat by Creatix which is airbrush able, but an archival spray varnish meant for protecting acrylic work will do, just make sure it isn't the flexible type -an outfit for your puppy, small newborn or preemie will fit, avoid anything with open neck as the soft body will show, sleepers and onesies work great.

Teacher's Note: I purchase all my supplies from Macpherson’s Arts and Crafts. They do ship worldwide.  http://www.macphersoncrafts.com
