Heirloom Bear Next
Class Begins June 19th, 2010
Now you can recycle your old fur coat into an adorable 17 inch, fully jointed
teddy bear right here on-line!
This course is designed for intermediate and advanced
students who already have a solid understanding of the mechanics of
bear making and a mastery of basic machine and hand stitching
skills.
The course is delivered in a step by step fashion with plenty of tips, tricks
and trivia along the way. This is
the same instruction that Nancy's students receive in her hands-on
courses.
The Heirloom Bear course is an instructor led course with specific
start and end dates.
You will make a 17 inch mohair bear with fully jointed arms and
legs and head. This course also features:
- Preparation of an old fur coat
- Instructions on pattern preparation and special considerations for
layout on recycled fur
- Lining genuine fur for best results
- Glass eye insertion.

- Embroidered nose
- Optional open mouth design
- Creating paws from vintage garment linings or vintage fabric
A yummy old fashioned Pound Cake recipe, new video down loads and over 120
photos round out this course. And of course...don't forget the
Discussion Forum in the Agora!
Students will be responsible for
providing their own materials. A small jacket or more will be required to
make this bear. Best furs include mink, muskrat, Persian Lamb,
rabbit, Seal and Beaver. If this is your first real fur bear, do NOT
choose...raccoon, fox, mouton, coyote wolf or mink tails or paws (mink
that is sewn in obvious ovals or shapes that can be seen on the right side
of the garment.)

Students will also need:
- 2- 65 mm joints
- 2- 55 mm joints
- 1- 45 mm joint
- 1- set of 12 mm glass eyes
- pearl cotton
- a 6 inch square of felt for the inner mouth
- scraps of pink felt or ultra suede for the
tongue
- fabric for paws
- thread (regular and heavy duty)
- 1-3 pounds of polyester stuffing
- 1/2 yard of unbleached cotton muslin or good
quality cotton broadcloth
