Avalanche  Next Class Begins July 17th, 2010

 

One of the University's koolest courses is Avalanche!

This course is designed for students from the novice, to advanced bear-smith who already has a basic understanding of the mechanics of bear making.
 



You will make a 15 inch puffy plush polar bear with fully jointed arms and legs and a double jointed neck. This course features:

  • Step by step instructions in conversational style text.
  • Plenty of photos
  • The very popular 'double jointed neck' ... which allows your bear to be posed in an unlimited number of expressive positions.
  • Appliqué toes.
  • Glass eye insertion.
  • Shading
  • Access to the Agora
  • Full size pattern

Supply List

  • 1/3 yd plush or mohair fabric in a polar bear color, density and pile-length of your choice. If your fabric has a knit backing, ensure that it has a tight weave.
  • 1 pair 10 or 12 mm glass eyes in black or a color of your choice.
  • An 10 inch square of felt or ultra-suede for your paw pads. Leather, suede or lined (interfacing) cloth is also acceptable.
  • Pearl cotton for the nose. You'll only need about 48-60 inches.
  • A 1 inch square section of black felt
  • 2-  45 mm joint sets
  • 3-  55 mm joint sets
  • A spool of polyester thread in a color to match your fur and heavy duty thread in a matching color
  • A sheet of Bristol or poster board for pattern template preparation and a glue stick.
  • Polyester fiber-fil stuffing. A bag can be purchased at your local craft store or Wal-Mart.
  • Pencil crayons in grey, blue and black
  • Ribbon for a bow or other embellishment
